Silver coin dedicated to adopted
the Gregorian calendar

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 1
April 2019, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a silver coin
dedicated to 100 years since Romania adopted the Gregorian calendar.
The coin has the following characteristics:
Obverse: the portraits and names of King Ferdinand I (on the right) and Prime Minister Ion I. C.
Bratianu (on the left), during whose time Romania adopted the Gregorian calendar, two quotations from
the law: “Se aproba de Noi adoptarea calendarului Gregorian.” and “Ziua de 1 Aprilie 1919 devine 14
Aprilie 1919.”, the title of the law “Decret-Lege 1053/1919”, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the
face value “10 LEI”, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue “2019”.
Reverse: the representation of an astronomical clock and the inscription “100 DE ANI DE LA
ADOPTAREA CALENDARULUI GREGORIAN” in an arc.
The silver coins are individually housed in transparent plastic capsules and are accompanied by leaflets
featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. Each leaflet comes
with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the
National Bank of Romania.
The mintage of this issue is 300 silver coins.
The selling price is lei 350.00, VAT excluded, per silver coin, including the leaflet.
The silver coins dedicated to 100 years since Romania adopted the Gregorian calendar are legal tender
on the territory of Romania. The silver coins will be put into circulation, for numismatic purposes,
through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi and
Timisoara.
On March 15, in the welcoming space of the Armenian
Embassy in Bucharest, the first exhibition in Romania of
Hripsime Margaryan, the armenian well known painter,
opened its gates.
Mr. Serghey Minasyan, the Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Armenia
, was the one
who held the opening speech. His Excellency stated that it
is already the second time that a painting exhibition is
being opened at the Embassy of Armenia, the first one
being the work of the famous Armenian painter in
Romania, Ervan Nicogosian.
Mr. Minasyan mentioned that in the present exhibition the
most important thing is to make Armenian culture and art
known in Romania as well. He particularly appreciated the
works of Hripsime Margaryan and emphasized his
dedication to painting and art in general, placing emphasis
on the particular graphic line and the inspired color
choice.
